Vehicle history check · UK

The history check built for car flippers.

Everything an HPI-style check tells you, then the things a flipper actually needs: the valuation knocked down for the Cat, a max bid at IAA fees, and the kit that sells the car. Live DVLA, DVSA and insurer data, the same feeds the big names use. Pay, type the reg, the report opens.

Straight off a real report

These are pages from a live check on one of our own cars, a 2019 Astra bought as a Cat N at IAA Gloucester. Open the whole thing as a PDF.

Page one of the report: six verdict tiles for write-off, finance, stolen, mileage, MOT and tax, with the flags underneath
At a glanceSix verdicts on page one, then every flag that needs a look.
The valuation page: forecourt, trade, private, part exchange and auction values for the clean car, then the same figures adjusted for the Cat N
Valuation, Cat-adjustedWhat it is worth clean, then with the write-off taken off.
The max bid page: the most to bid at IAA UK for repair bills from nothing to three thousand pounds
Max bid at IAAThe most to bid for every size of repair bill, fees and VAT in.

What's in every report

  • Write-off record: the category, the loss date and the insurer, from the insurers' own register. Cat S means walk away, Cat N means price it right.
  • Finance and stolen: whether a lender still owns it and whether the police want it. Either one and the car is not yours to sell.
  • Keepers, plates and the mileage register: every previous keeper, every plate change, every recorded mileage against the MOT history, so a clocked car shows up.
  • Valuation, Cat-adjusted: forecourt, private, part exchange and auction values for the clean car, then the same figures with the write-off knocked off. No other check does this.
  • Max bid at IAA: the most to bid for repair bills from nothing to £3,000, worked off that valuation, with our free calculator pre-filled.
  • What sells it: the standard kit buyers pay more for marked as selling points, the factory options to look for, the likely paint code, ULEZ status, tax, running costs and the full MOT history with every advisory.
  • Share it in your advert: one press makes a link any buyer can open for 30 days, and the report stays saved for you too.

How it works

  1. Pay with Stripe. £7 for one car, £25 for five. Card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
  2. Type the reg. You land straight on the form; add the mileage on the dash if you can see it and the valuation is priced at that mileage.
  3. The report opens. Read it on your phone, print it, save it as a PDF or share the link. Spare checks wait on your email, no expiry.

Questions people ask

Is this an HPI check?

It is a full vehicle history check that covers what people mean by an HPI check: the insurance write-off record, outstanding finance, the police stolen register, previous keepers, plate changes and the mileage register, all from the licensed DVLA, DVSA and insurer feeds. HPI is a trademark of HPI Ltd and this is not their product. Ours adds the valuation adjusted for the write-off category, a max bid table at IAA UK fees and the kit that sells the car.

Is the data live?

Yes. Every report is built from the live feeds when you run it, then kept for 30 days so you can open it again, print it or share it without paying twice.

What does Cat N or Cat S mean on a report?

An insurer wrote the car off. Cat N means the damage was not structural and the car can be repaired and put back on the road; Cat S means structural damage, repairable but a bigger job. Cat A and Cat B cars cannot legally return to the road. A category stays on the record for life, and the car sells for less than a clean one, which is why the report shows the valuation with the category taken off.

Do the checks expire?

No. Checks you buy sit on your email until you use them. Car Flip Academy members get checks in their plan as well: Basic 1 a month, Premium 5.

What if the report cannot be run?

If the feeds cannot find the registration, the check is not taken off your balance. Reply to your confirmation email and we sort it.

Does it work on vans and motorbikes?

Anything with a UK registration on the DVLA record. The valuation and the max bid table need the vehicle to be in the trade price guides, which covers cars and most light vans; where a figure is missing the report says so rather than guessing.

Not sure what to bid? Bring the car to the Thursday live

Every Thursday at 7pm UK time, Car Flip Academy members bring listings from IAA, Copart and Facebook Marketplace and Kieran goes through them live: the report, the likely repairs, what the car will sell for and the most he'd pay. 7-day free trial.
