Who's coming out to Tring
I'm Kieran, and Kiers Garage is just me. I'm based in Hemel Hempstead and Tring is in my £60 area, along the A41. I bring a dealer-level scanner, a battery and alternator tester, a smoke tester and a head gasket tester, find out what's wrong and tell you straight. 15+ years in car sales, and I buy, fix and sell cars myself.

If all you need is a battery and charging test, that's from £60 too. Smoke tests for leaks and ABS or airbag warning lights are also from £60.
Battery, alternator or something draining it?
When a car won't start, or comes up with a dash full of lights after a cold night, the battery is a common cause of both. Before you buy a battery or an alternator, it's worth knowing which one it is.
Battery health and cranking: whether the battery still holds a charge and can turn the engine over properly.
Charging: whether the alternator is putting back what the car uses while it runs.
A drain: whether something is flattening the battery while the car is parked.
Then the scan. Low voltage makes modules log faults that aren't real faults. Reading every module shows which codes are the battery talking and which ones need fixing.
Common battery and charging faults
These are the ones that catch people out, because the symptoms point everywhere except the battery.
Slow cranking on cold mornings
Usually a battery near the end of its life. The tester shows its health in a couple of minutes.
Battery light on while driving
That points to the charging side: alternator, belt or wiring. Don't ignore it. Once the battery runs down, the car can cut out.
Lights everywhere after a flat battery
Many of those codes are history from the low voltage. The scan shows which ones are still live.
Stop and start stopped working
Many cars switch stop and start off when the battery is weak, so it can be an early sign.
What the tests can and can't tell you
Testing beats guessing, but it has limits too.

Can't tell you
- Exactly how long an old battery will last
- Bring back a battery that's been flat for weeks. Some won't hold a charge again.
- Track every drain to one circuit in a single visit. That can take longer, and I'll tell you if it does.

Usually, yes. Tell me when you book. I carry a jump pack, and I'll test the battery and the charging while I'm there.

Why has my car got so many warning lights after a flat battery?
When the voltage drops, modules log faults. Some of those codes are just history from the flat battery. I read every module and tell you which ones matter.

Do I need to be there?
Someone does, with the keys, because the scan needs the ignition on. It doesn't have to be at home: I can come to your work.
